Festes Majors

The "Festa Major" is celebrated in honor of the Virgin of Fontcalda, and have a duration of 5 days.

Since 1900 we find written newsletters of festivals, despite the changes that has been suffering the program year after year, several elements have remained throughout all the years which makes this festivity of Gandesa have a unique character.

Acts that have survived until today are the "bells roll over" which announce the villagers that the event is starting. Another traditional event is the "plega", where the "pubilles" and "hereus" collect donations from the people using a napkin.

The dance of the "Dansada" or the "jota gandesana", very important part of the Spanish folklore is another of the acts that take place during the Festa Major. Another of the demonstrations that have been held so far are the "cóssos". The "cóssos" are pedestrian races of people which in the past had a recreational nature of rivalry between friends and families. Nowadays it is a sporting event more related with athletics. They are also much awaited the donkey race and obviously the ball and fireworks.

Apart from these elements that have survived until today, there are others built, which have become important parts of the Festival, including the choice of the "Pubilla", which was organized for the first time on the year 1964, or the parade of floats launched in 1969.
